Hi, I'm Sanne — a design generalist who likes to code. I’ve been a Senior Product Designer at Ghost for the past five years, where I help build the very software used to run this site.
Ghost is an independent non-profit organisation, without owners or outside investors. It's also fully remote. While the technology is widely adopted for many use cases, it is designed with professional publishers in mind. We aim to make it effortless to write, publish, and get funded directly by readers. As an open-source platform, it’s built to truly give publishers full control over their content.
When I first joined, my coding skills were limited. But at Ghost, designers code. Working in small teams — usually just one or two developers — gave me the opportunity to pick up frontend development, which completely changed my approach to design. I now love the fact that I have full control over how things look and feel. Most of my work is public on GitHub.
Lately, I’ve started doing small side projects, like creating Figma plugins. I'm also mentoring talented youth from MENA countries to help them find jobs through TAP.
Outside of work, I love to run. Most days, you’ll find me doing a lap around the Amsterdam forest with my partner, Daniel . Last year I ran my first marathon (and then a second). I’m currently training for the London marathon this spring.
